Just shy of 150 riders travelled to Hartlepool to tackle the 5 berms and 6 straights of this fast flowing track.
Reduced rider numbers didn’t dampen the enthusiasm for racing and the atmosphere was great with commentating duties performed by the Northern Monkey himself Rich Eames who was doing breathless race calls after also riding in 35-39 Cruiser.Rich’s site theridenation.com is well worth checking out when you’ve finished reading this!
Despite forgetting his race pants and having to wear his jogging bottoms (thankfully this isn’t Secondary School PE from the 1980′s, otherwise he would’ve had to race in his undies) LNM’s Andy Clucas was on great form in Payback. The racing was Grand Prix format due to the low rider numbers, with Andy up against locals Jack Hall and Adam Smith as well as in form Jordan Hayes and Grant Hill.
Andy was right up there all day but pedal problems slowed him down. 4th place overall on the day ws still a great result as he looks to do well at next week’s Nationals in Derby.
I was up against a much reduced field in 30-34 Cruiser, with Nigel Smith my only rival. Still…2nd place on the day produced some nice points for the series!
All in all, a great day of racing at Hartlepool, big thanks to North East BMX Club.
Roll on Derby!
